Manzanita is a branchy type of driftwood that’s perfect for adding fine detail to your aquarium hardscape. The pieces are sandblasted to show off their natural twists and textures, and they’re denser and tougher than Spiderwood, so they hold up well over time. It pairs beautifully with aquatic mosses and epiphytic plants in planted tanks, giving your scape a sculptural, natural look. Go ahead and branch out your design!

Product Features and Benefits

  • Manzanita’s naturally thin and twisting limbs allow you to create intricate tree-top effects or complex root systems.
  • Unlike the heavier leaching of other woods, Manzanita is much lighter in tannin content.
  • These branches are just as popular in terrariums and paludariums as they are in planted aquarium hardscapes, providing sturdy climbing structures that won't rot quickly in high humidity.
  • The smooth, pale surface serves as a beautiful high-contrast anchor for green mosses and epiphytes like Anubias.

Preparation and Care
Driftwood is a natural product and requires a bit of prep before it’s ready for prime time.

  1. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the piece to remove any dust or debris from transit.
  2. The Floating Phase: Depending on the size, Manzanita will float a little initially. We recommend soaking it thoroughly or boiling it. A large stone or heavy decor may be placed on top to ensure a non-waterlogged piece of wood stays submerged.
  3. Tannin Management: While low in tannins, a quick boil can help fast-track the sinking process and ensure your water stays crystal clear. You can also reduce this effect through consistent water changes or through the addition of Aquario Neo Carbon Bag

Important note: We recommend rinsing wood thoroughly before adding it to an established aquarium. If you prefer, you may also boil the wood for at least 1–2 hours to help release tannins.
